Responsibilities
- Provide guidance and counseling on nutritional practices to enhance recovery and optimize performance for SOF personnel, prioritizing SOF Operators and Direct Combat Support personnel.
- Perform administrative and clinical duties within the scope of practice.
- Provide nutritional planning, counseling, and documentation guided by evidence-based peer-reviewed literature.
- Advise the chain of command on issues pertinent to nutrition and performance nutrition.
- Provide individual and group counseling for guidance on performance nutrition.
- Design and implement performance nutrition programs for SOF personnel in garrison, TAD/TDY, and deployed settings.
- Develop nutritional protocols and guidelines for rehabilitation and performance.
- Collaborate with the HP program Manager and/or Coordinator for the implementation of new protocols and guidelines.
- Assist other regional SOF assets as required, and attend meetings with other POTFF staff members and medical personnel.
- Ensure availability of adequate educational materials and sports nutrition specific supplies.
- Assist with supply inventories and provide input on supply needs.
- Ensure equipment and facilities are in safe working condition and properly utilized.
- Ensure records are updated as required and participate in periodic in-service training for HP Staff.
- Attend required training in accordance with guiding instructions and participate in education programs.
- Participate in peer (record) reviews as directed.
- Develop and promulgate training materials as requested.
- Perform administrative duties such as maintaining records of workload and participating in clinical staff quality assurance functions.
- Document care in the Military’s Electronic Health Record and/or the HP Enterprise-wide database.
- Collect and report data as required and proficiently utilize computers, software, and technologies.
Qualifications
- Master’s level degree in Nutrition Science or related field.
- Certification from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) as a Registered Dietitian (RD).
- Specialty certification as a Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD); may be waived but must be earned within six months if waived.
- Current and valid state certification/licensure.
- Capable of meeting physical demands of training with SOF, including hiking and functioning in austere environments.
- Ability to assist with strength and conditioning testing and training protocols.
- Certification as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) is desired, but not required.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of demonstrable accumulated experience as a Performance Dietitian with individual athletes and groups of athletes at NCAA Collegiate, Olympic, professional sports, and/or SOF Operators levels.
Licensure
- Maintain current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) as certified by the American Heart Association.
- Documentation of BCLS certification provided to the COR and credentialing department.
