Main duties of the job:

  • To provide assistance to GPs and Practice Staff.
  • To provide a point of contact for patients and act as a focal point of communication between patients, GPs and other clinical staff.

Administration:

  • Maintain, update and monitor the computerised registration database.
  • Monitor stock levels, usage and re-order requirements of stationery and sundry items.
  • Scanning.
  • Dealing with solicitors’ requests for notes.
  • Desktop publishing posters, stationery, practice leaflet.
  • Responsible for putting up posters and leaflets.

Receptionist:

  • Reception duties.
  • Using the appointment system.
  • Repeat prescriptions.
  • Preparation of consultation rooms.
  • Operation of telephone system.
  • Start and end of day procedures.
  • Any other delegated duties considered appropriate to the post.

About us:

We are a busy NHS Training Practice in the centre of Dartford with just over 7,500 patients. We have 5 General Practitioners, 2 Practice Nurses and 2 HCAs and 11 members of staff within the Management, Secretarial, Reception and Administrative Teams. We are a GMS practice. Our IT system is EMIS Web. From our location in Dartford, we enjoy excellent travel links to London, Ebbsfleet International and the South-East Coast. We have good local schools and Bluewater Shopping Centre is also very close by. For fitness enthusiasts, we are within walking distance of the Fairfield Fitness Centre and Swimming Pool.

Job responsibilities:

Main purpose of post: To provide assistance to GPs and practice staff and to provide a point of contact for patients and act as a focal point of communication between patients, GPs and other medical staff.

Responsible to: Practice Manager.

Special requirements of the post:

  • An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality.
  • An ability to use own judgment, resourcefulness, commonsense and local knowledge to respond to patients' enquiries and requests.
  • Keyboard skills, computer literacy preferred.
  • Proven accuracy in transcribing information from request to issue of prescription.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision and determine own workload priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Person Specification:

Experience:

  • Experience with using Windows software e.g. WORD, EXCEL etc.
  • Keyboard skills, computer literacy.
  • Experience of working in primary care or caring environment but not essential.
