Greensmiths is looking for a hands-on, service-driven General Manager to lead our Waterloo store and café. We are a neighbourhood food destination bringing together a greengrocer, deli, bakery, butcher, fishmonger, wine merchant and cheesemonger under one roof — passionate about high-quality produce, exceptional service, and creating an irresistible grab-and-go café experience. Reporting to the Operations Manager, this role is all about ensuring the day-to-day running of the site runs smoothly, inspiring the team, and delivering an exceptional customer experience. Lead and manage the daily running of the Greensmiths grocery and café. Provide visible, hands-on leadership on the shop floor. Coach, train, and develop staff to ensure high standards of service, product knowledge, and efficiency. Maintain a welcoming, customer-focused environment at all times. Support the Kitchen Manager and Head of Production to ensure smooth coordination between counter, kitchen, and shop. Oversee scheduling, rotas, and daily team organisation. Handle customer feedback and resolve any issues quickly and professionally. Ensure all areas comply with health, safety, and food hygiene standards. Assist in stock management, merchandising, and daily site checks to maintain high standards of presentation. Monitor and drive performance against KPIs, ensuring targets for sales, service, and operational efficiency are met. At least 5 years' experience in a hands-on management role in retail, hospitality, or café/QSR environments. Experience working to and delivering against KPIs with some P&L responsibility. Strong service-driven mindset with a passion for delivering excellent customer experiences. Excellent people management skills — able to motivate, train, and develop a small but diverse team. Highly organised, reliable, and able to prioritise daily tasks effectively. Confident working on the shop floor, leading by example. Knowledge of food safety, HACCP, and basic retail compliance. Positive, approachable, and adaptable personality — able to work in a busy, dynamic environment. Desirable experience: Experience in QSR, grab-and-go, or café operations. Familiarity with premium food retail environments. Interest in seasonal produce and food trends.
