Lower 48 Energy (L48) is a UK based BESS development platform. We are accelerating the clean energy transition by developing and deploying BESS assets at strategic locations in the UK.

Our vision is to develop and own a UK Battery Storage portfolio of 250 MW in the next 2-3 years, expanding into further European territories and delivering a capacity of 1GW of capacity in the next 5-7 years.

CCI is a leading global energy commodities merchant and infrastructure asset investor headquartered in Stamford, USA with European offices in London and Geneva.

Lower 48 Energy is constructing its first project, a 45 MW, 90 MWh in Preston, Lancashire with COD in Q2 2025 and is working on two more projects to start design in 2024.

Lower 48 Energy’s organic pipeline is 800 MW in various stages of development.

Graduate Energy Engineer

Lower 48 Energy is looking for a Graduate Engineer to join our company as ‘Energy Engineer.’

As a Graduate Energy Engineer, you will be at the forefront of the energy transition, contributing to the development, deployment, and optimization of cutting-edge energy storage technologies. Working closely with our team of experienced engineers, you will play a key role in driving forward our mission to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy and support the transition to a low-carbon future.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Analysis and Design: Conduct technical analysis and feasibility studies for BESS projects, including system sizing, performance optimization, and integration with renewable energy sources.
  • Project Development: Support the development of BESS projects from concept to execution, including site selection, permitting, grid interconnection, and regulatory compliance.
  • System & Revenue Modelling: Utilize advanced modeling and simulation tools to predict the performance of BESS systems under different operating conditions and optimize system design parameters.
  • Performance Monitoring and Optimization: Implement monitoring protocols to track the performance of deployed BESS systems and identify opportunities for performance optimization and efficiency improvements.
  • Research and Development: Stay abreast of the latest advancements in BESS technologies, industry trends, and regulatory requirements, and contribute to ongoing research and development initiatives within the company.
  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of BESS projects and foster positive relationships within the industry.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or related field) with a focus on renewable energy, energy systems, or electrical engineering
  • Strong understanding of energy storage principles and technologies, with specific knowledge of battery energy storage systems (BESS) preferred.
  • Familiarity with energy modeling and simulation software (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, HOMER, PSS/E) and proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Python, R) is advantageous.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with a keen attention to detail and a proactive approach to learning.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
