You’ll work at the intersection of engineering excellence, customer centric design, and help us deliver reliable, intuitive, and compliant digital journeys for millions of users. You’ll be part of a collaborative, cross functional engineering team, contributing to the full development lifecycle: from shaping technical solutions and writing high quality code, to ensuring our platforms meet the regulatory, data protection, and security standards expected of a leading payments and rewards provider. This is a hands on role for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, mentoring others, and building products that genuinely make a difference.

Key responsibilities

  • Build and maintain robust, high-quality web and mobile applications using Java and React Native, applying SOLID design principles throughout.
  • Help shape the architecture and technical direction of digital products, with a focus on scalability, performance, and long‑term maintainability.
  • Contribute across the full software development lifecycle — from shaping and scoping features through to production delivery — within an agile team.
  • Work closely with product managers, designers, and QA engineers to take features from concept to production.
  • Lead and participate in code reviews, championing engineering best practice and constructive feedback.
  • Mentor junior engineers and foster a collaborative, knowledge‑sharing team culture.
  • Write secure, compliant code that meets regulatory, data‑protection, and payment‑security standards (e.g., PCI DSS, GDPR).
  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues across the stack.
  • Support and improve CI/CD pipelines, continuous delivery, and test automation.
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, tooling, and ways of working.
  • Keep documentation accurate and up to date for systems, processes, and key technical decisions.
  • Provide out‑of‑hours production support on a rota basis.

Essential skills and experience

  • Hands‑on experience building and maintaining cross‑platform mobile applications using React Native.
  • Strong backend development experience using Java and Spring, including working with large or mature codebases.
  • Experience deploying and managing Java applications on Apache Tomcat and/or IBM WebSphere application servers.
  • Solid understanding of secure coding principles and experience working with customer data, payment processing, or other regulated environments.
  • Demonstrable experience with RESTful APIs and integrating third‑party services.
  • Strong understanding of web performance, accessibility (WCAG), and responsive design principles.
  • Solid experience across the testing landscape, including unit, integration, and end‑to‑end testing using tools such as Jest, Detox, Cypress, Playwright, Selenium, JUnit, and Mockito — with a strong commitment to test‑driven development.
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, version control (Git), and modern deployment practices.
  • Familiarity with security best practices relevant to web and mobile applications (e.g OWASP Top 10).
  • Excellent communication skills, able to articulate technical decisions clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working within Agile or cross‑functional delivery teams.

  • It would be great if you already have:
  • Experience with Salesforce including Apex and LWC.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).

How to prepare for a job interview at Love2shop

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Love2shop uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
