Travel: Nationwide (regular & reactive travel to client sites required)

We are recruiting a highly capable Field Operations Engineer for a 6-month assignment supporting technical deployments and on-site IT operations across multiple UK locations. This is a hands-on, field-based role ideal for someone who thrives on variety, problem-solving and delivering robust infrastructure solutions in fast-moving environments.

The Role

You will be the technical backbone of field operations, deploying, maintaining, and optimising IT infrastructure across sites nationwide. Working closely with network engineers, contractors, and local teams, you will ensure equipment is installed correctly, systems stay stable, and users receive high-quality support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Deployment
    • Execute on-site technical setups across centre locations
    • Rack and cable servers, switches, and associated hardware
    • Support installation and initial configuration with network engineers
    • Oversee contractor activity to ensure compliance with project specs
    • Travel across the UK (and occasionally abroad) to support deployments
  • Maintenance & Support
    • Maintain OS and application installations, including security patching
    • Monitor and maintain cooling systems, PDUs, UPS units and other infra
    • Support user account and permission management
    • Troubleshoot and maintain printers, scanners, biometric kits, kiosks and other devices
    • Upgrade and optimise existing infrastructure to improve performance
  • Surveillance & Endpoint Management
    • Set up and maintain surveillance systems (QVR Pro, livestreams, access control)
    • Manage inventory, user accounts, and mobile devices
    • Ensure regular endpoint updates and security patching
  • Procurement & Asset Management
    • Procure IT equipment and manage timely delivery
    • Maintain accurate asset records and inventory
    • Source hardware and prepare buying lists in collaboration with Procurement
  • Other Duties
    • Liaise with vendors for service contracts and maintenance
    • Participate in audits and support remediation actions
    • Escalate incidents and highlight risks appropriately

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent training
  • 2+ years' experience in systems engineering or similar technical roles
  • Strong hands-on experience with IT deployments, cabling and hardware setup
  • Experience with routers and switches (required)
  • VMware or other virtualisation experience (required)
  • MS Active Directory experience (required)
  • Knowledge of: Linux (RHEL/Debian), Bash, VMware, Windows Server, PowerShell, Windows 11, macOS
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset
  • Comfortable working in international and multicultural environments
