The EYST Y-CAP (Youth, Community and Anti-Racist Programme) is a dynamic, community-rooted programme that supports the delivery of the Anti-Racist Wales Action Plan (ARWAP) through a targeted youth engagement, community advocacy, and anti-racism and anti-Islamophobia programme.

Funded by the Welsh Government until March 31st 2027 this provides the unique opportunity to combine engagement and policy to make a really impact both clients and wider society in both the short and long term.

Travel across South Wales region including regular visits to Swansea and Newport will be required for this role. This role much be completed in person

An Enhanced DBS will be required for this role.

Aims of the Post

The Project has three main objectives which the successful candidate will support with. The focus for this role will be Community Engagement, Advice and Advocacy

1. Youth Engagement, Empowerment and Upskilling

2. Community Engagement, Advice and Advocacy

3. Challenging Racism and Islamophobia in Institutions

Principal Accountabilities and Main Duties

1. Host weekly community advice and advocacy sessions across Swansea, Cardiff, and Newport.

2. Address key issues such as housing, employability, and access to social services for minority ethnic individuals.

3. Facilitate monthly online community engagement sessions to discuss relevant topics, promote cross-community dialogue, and gather insights.

4. Build networks with minority ethnic communities, ensuring inclusivity and tailored support for underserved groups.

5.Develop community advocates by identifying and training “Experts by Experience” to engage in broader civic initiatives.

6. To support the delivery of Training sessions as part of the projects targets

7. To support and attend in regular network meeting for partners to attend and share updates and learning and highlight issues

8. To present regular progress reports to funders, the EYST Co-directors and EYST Board as required

9.To ensure that the project promotes and reflects equality of opportunity at all levels.

10. To ensure that EYST Safeguarding, Data Protection, Equal Opportunities and all other relevant policies are implemented.

11.To maintain all administrative and financial records related to the project, in accordance with EYST administrative and financial systems.

12. To work with the EYST Co-directors and Board to set and maintain a culture of high professional standards and to deliver best value services.

13. To carry out any other duties that may from time to time be required.

Person Specification (all elements essential)

  1. At least one years’ experience of working with clients from ethnic minority communities, preferably in Wales.

2. Experience of providing advice and advocacy to clients

3. Understanding of the challenges facing members of ethnic minorities communities in Wales, including housing, employment and rights

4.Experience of leading and co-ordinating online engagement sessions

5. Experience of working with partner organisations to build positive and productive networks

6. Ability to feedback findings to key stakeholders

7. Ability to deliver training to external partners

8.Experience of supporting personal development of clients and volunteers

9. Understanding of Welsh Governments Anti-Racist Action Plan

10. Experience of working with a Team to ensure project targets are achieved

11. Ability to empathise, support and empower clients.

12. Able to work independently and with considerable discretion but to seek advice as required

13. Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills

14.Experience of monitoring projects and recording client support using Client CRM systems

15. In depth understanding and commitment to equal opportunities, along with a commitment to contribute to the development of policy and practices in this area

16. Self-motivated and able to work to deadlines and under pressure in a high intensity environment.

17. Ability to travel across South Wales region

18. Good IT skills including Email, Powerpoint, Word, Excel and Remote Working skills (Zoom, etc) with the ability to adapt to new technology
