Job description

The Office of Voluntary Sub-Warden – The Holt Hall x 2

A promising opportunity has opened in The Holt Hall of Residence for 2 individuals to commence a 12-month fixed-term sub-warden appointment. Applications are invited from doctoral researchers only.

The Hall: The Holt Hall is an idyllic community just off-campus on Ashby Road. It attracts undergraduate students to its Unite-owned grounds, enabling a diverse community that values both campus and town life, including domestic and international students.

Duties: Sub-Wardens assist the Warden in the hall\’s daily operations, which may involve pastoral, disciplinary, and administrative duties, as well as social aspects of hall life. They will be part of a team providing out-of-hours emergency cover for over 260 students, fostering a positive student experience.

Personal Attributes: Candidates must demonstrate high organizational ability, excellent communication skills, good administrative skills, leadership qualities, and be team players. Sub-Wardens are expected to dedicate approximately 14 hours per week to the role.

Accommodation and Catering Arrangements: Free accommodation is provided, subject to shift fulfillment. Typically, accommodation is suitable for a single person. The Holt is self-catered, with some meals provided during term time through the diners+ scheme.

You are welcome to meet the Warden Team on July 28th at Holt, 6-7 pm. To attend, please complete this short form by July 25th, 5 pm.

Application Procedures: Submit the following to Dr Valerie Dennehy at holtwarden@lboro.ac.uk by midnight on July 22, 2025:

  • The Office of Voluntary Sub-Wardenship Application Form
  • A 1-page letter outlining suitability for the post
  • Two written references (e.g., PhD Supervisors, Line Managers, Head of Section)

Interviews are scheduled for the evening of July 31, 2025. The successful candidate should be ready to start in the week beginning September 1, 2025, or earlier. Additionally, the selected applicant will need to take a day off from studies on September 23, 2025 for The Holt’s First Years Arrivals Day.
