Job description

The Office of Voluntary Subwarden – Falkner Eggington

A Sub-Warden vacancy has arisen at Falkner Eggington—a friendly hall with a fantastic sense of hall spirit. Applications are invited from doctoral researchers only—ideally with a substantial amount of time remaining on their programme.

Duties: Subwardens assist the Warden, Rebecca Newberry, in the day-to-day running of the hall. This may involve pastoral, disciplinary, and administrative duties, as well as being involved in social aspects of hall life. The successful applicants will be part of a team providing out-of-hours emergency cover in a hall of 519 students, helping to ensure the smooth operation of the hall.

Personal Attributes: Candidates must demonstrate high personal organizational ability, good administrative skills, leadership qualities, and confidence in dealing with challenging situations. Subwardens are expected to commit roughly 14 hours per week to the role and demonstrate a commitment to the community spirit of the hall.

Accommodation and Catering Arrangements: Free accommodation is available throughout the year, suitable for a single person. Falk-Egg is self-catered, but some meals are provided during term time through the diners+ scheme.

  • Meet the sub-warden team sessions: 6th July at 5 pm or 9th July at 6 pm in the Falk Egg Common Room. Attendance is mandatory.
  • Training sessions: Attendance required on 15th, 16th, and 17th September for First Aid and Mental Health First Aid training.
  • First Year Arrivals Day: The successful candidate must be available on Wednesday, 24th September 2025, to assist during Falk-Egg’s First Years Arrivals Day.
