Senior Research Associate – ADV Assistive XR

Join Loughborough University as a Senior Research Associate (or Research Associate, depending on applicant pool) in the Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering.

Full time, Fixed Term until 30 June 2026.

We are funded by a £20 million project led by Airbus to research and develop next‑generation advanced assistive visualization solutions using eXtended Reality (XR) systems. The goal is to provide accurate graphical overlays onto real manufacturing components, including operator tasking information overlays and virtual target markers to guide manual operations such as sequenced drilling.

Previous work includes fully reconfigurable XR software using Unity, displaying user information, tested with facilities at UCL for future integration at Airbus Broughton. Initial user evaluation trials have already started.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop new XR display concepts and user interfaces.
• Support integration of XR systems at Airbus Broughton.
• Collaborate with research partners and industry stakeholders.
• Contribute to research publications and project outputs.

Qualifications

• Experience developing XR applications using Unity or similar platforms.
• Strong understanding of mixed‑media design for manufacturing contexts.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
• Excellent communication and project management skills.
