The school wishes to grow its Mechanical Engineering teaching and research capability with a high-calibre appointment in the mechanics of extreme environments, hypersonics with a focus on applications in the defence sector. We welcome candidates with strengths across high-impact and high-rate mechanics, ballistics and the response of materials and structures under extreme conditions, including those with experimental and computational expertise in extreme regimes.

You will have a PhD or equivalent research experience in mechanics of materials in extreme environments, high-rate mechanics, hypersonics, ballistics, or a closely related field. Expertise in experimental techniques and/or computational modelling under extreme conditions is essential.

You will have a track record of research excellence, with publications in leading journals and a trajectory towards international recognition. Experience in defence-related applications or collaboration with industry partners is particularly welcomed.
