We have an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Technician to join our team at Loughborough College Group, based at Loughborough College. We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to support teaching, research, and applied practice within our Sport Degree provisions. This role is ideal for someone passionate about sports science and keen to contribute to high-quality laboratory provision in a higher education setting at one of the UK's leading institutions for sport education.
You will play a key role in supporting laboratory-based teaching and research activities across disciplines such as physiology, biomechanics, and nutrition. Working closely with academic staff, students, and external partners, you will help ensure the smooth running of practical sessions and the maintenance of specialist equipment in our state-of-the-art facilities.
Key responsibilities:
- Prepare, set up, and support laboratory practical sessions in areas such as exercise physiology, biomechanics, and strength & conditioning.
- Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment (e.g., online gas analysers, force plates, motion capture systems and cardiovascular equipment).
- Provide technical support to staff and students during teaching and research activities.
- Assist with data collection for research projects.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including risk assessments and safe working practices.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, servicing, and inventory.
- Support applied sport science services for athletes, where applicable.
Essential Requirements:
- A bachelor's degree in Sport Science, Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics, or a related discipline.
- Knowledge of laboratory equipment and data collection techniques used in sport science.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to support students effectively.
- A commitment to continued professional development and a passion for education.
Desirable requirements:
- Demonstrable experience in an applied sports industry setting.
- Experience working in a laboratory or applied sport science environment.
- Experience in a higher education setting.
- Familiarity with software and data utilised in a performance sport laboratory.
- Accreditation or working towards accreditation (e.g., BASES).
