CAMHS Early Help Practitioner (Maternity Cover)
Job Summary: 22.5 hours per week, fixed‑term maternity cover (9 months). Hybrid model with office and remote work.
Responsibilities
- Deliver evidence‑based, targeted interventions (1‑1 and group) within the I‑THRIVE model.
- Provide timely assessments and short‑term interventions (up to 8 sessions).
- Support children and young people with emerging mental health issues in collaboration with CAMHS liaison practitioners.
- Represent CAMHS in multi‑agency meetings (EHAT, SEND, child protection).
- Assist with consultation processes and advise families on mental health support.
- Develop and maintain relationships with statutory and non‑statutory providers.
- Maintain confidentiality and meet high standards of care.
- Use Routine Outcome Measures (ROMS) to evaluate interventions.
- Contribute to training programmes for schools and community services.
- Participate in line management and clinical governance activities.
- Support the early help assessment clinic to ensure timely access to services.
- Mentor students as a supervisor/assessor where appropriate.
Qualifications
- Core degree in Nursing, Social Work, OT, or equivalent with experience working with children and young people.
- Professional registration (e.g., NMC, HCPC) relevant to the qualification.
Experience
- Post‑registration experience working with children and young people with mental health difficulties.
- Experience conducting mental health assessments and risk management.
- Experience working in multi‑agency settings.
- Ability to manage an autonomous caseload.

- Strong organisational, prioritisation and time‑management abilities.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Knowledge of legislation and policies relating to child mental health.
- Knowledge of the I‑THRIVE model and multi‑agency working.
- Self‑motivation and cultural sensitivity when working with diverse families.
Desirable Skills
- IT skills and familiarity with relevant programmes.
- Experience in children’s mental health research.
- Experience supporting students and line‑managing junior staff.
