Learning Mentor | Halifax Full-Time | Β£90 - Β£110 per day (dependent on experience)

We are currently recruiting for a Teaching Assistant / Learning Mentor to join a specialist education setting in Halifax on a full-time basis.

This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils aged 7-18 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Autism within a nurturing and therapeutic learning environment.

The school is committed to helping young people develop confidence, resilience, independence, and positive relationships, ensuring every pupil can achieve their potential.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant / Learning Mentor, you will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide both academic and emotional support to students.

You will play a vital role in helping pupils engage in learning, manage their emotions, and build confidence both inside and outside the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting students with SEMH needs and Autism on a 1:1 and small group basis.
  • Assisting with the delivery of lessons and learning activities.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing.
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Encouraging student engagement, independence, and personal development.
  • Supporting the implementation of individual learning and behaviour plans.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external professionals.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children or young people, ideally within education, care, youth work, residential support, or a similar setting.
  • Experience supporting individuals with SEMH, Autism, behavioural needs, or additional learning needs is advantageous.
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
