Senior Maintenance Technicians are required to look after the day-to-day maintenance activities of an engineering manufacturing business. In this role, staff are required to carry out a key number of tasks and activities as described. Flexible working is a major factor in this role, as plant support engineers have to cover early starts and other work patterns to suit the business. There is also a requirement to participate in a call-out rota for site emergencies.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Keeping production managers informed of maintenance activities and job progress.
- Checking and calibrating key production and metrology equipment to satisfy internal and external audits.
- Undertaking minor improvements and project work relating to site services, including minor electrical and compressed air installations depending on skill set.
- Carrying out building maintenance activities as required.
- Moving and installing small items of plant in production areas.
- Routine servicing work.
- Organising and planning larger maintenance tasks that require method statements and risk assessments.
- Responding to emergency breakdowns.
- Updating certificates and legislative documentation records.
- Performing daily monitoring tasks relating to site services and critical plant.
- Routine inspections and testing as part of general site walk-around.
- Updating repair details and parts records on the computer maintenance system, keeping asset lists up to date and controlling Line Replacement Units.
- Repairing production equipment, fixing faults and investigating machine failures.
- Maintaining tidiness and housekeeping in the maintenance workshop and maintenance work areas around the site.
- Following health and safety, environmental and other engineering standards that apply to the maintenance of plant and equipment site-wide.
- Managing the stock of specialist components and spares for business-critical plant.
- Working within a defined budget.
- Supporting and daily controlling external contractors, including checking method statements and risk assessments and raising work permits to control these activities.
Qualifications and Experience
- GCSEs in Mathematics, Science and English.
- Understanding of engineering drawings and principles.
- Good practical and technical skills.
- Aware of health & safety legislation.
- Experience in a maintenance role with other organisations.
- Ability to work as a team player, unsupervised, with initiative, calm and ordered in a crisis.
Desirable Criteria
- BTEC certificate in Maintenance Engineering.
- City & Guilds certificate in Engineering.
- Ability in Maths, Science & IT.
- Completion of an Engineering NVQ or experience as an engineering apprentice.
- Experience of robotic and automated equipment.
