At Lothian Pension Fund (LPF), we administer the local government pension scheme (LGPS) in Edinburgh and the Lothians and are one of approximately a hundred LGPS funds in the UK. We’re an asset-backed and multi-employer scheme with around £10.3 billion of assets and we were 157% funded at our last valuation in 2023. Details of Internship:

  • Closing date: 5 pm on Friday 22 May 2026
  • Interviews: Initial online interview around the end of May, final interview preferably in person at our office in Edinburgh at start of June
  • Paid Placement: 23 June – 14 August 2026
  • Location: Edinburgh city centre (hybrid working available)

Overview & responsibilities during eight-week summer Internship Programme:

  • This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the investment management industry with hands-on exposure to investment decision-making in equities, fixed income and real assets
  • Involvement in portfolio company monitoring and supporting the production of internal updates
  • Undertaking company and/or sector research and financial analysis
  • Analysis of environmental, social and governance factors at the company or portfolio level

Qualifications & requirements:

  • A penultimate year undergraduate at university and on course for a minimum of a 2:1
  • A demonstrated interest and passion in financial markets, trading, and financial products
  • The candidate should possess a broad set of quantitative, qualitative and interpersonal skills, and be a strong team player with high analytical, intellectual and problem-solving capabilities
  • Knowledge of financial statement analysis, valuation techniques
  • Competency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Strong organisation skills and attention to detail with the ability to prioritise, manage and deliver on multiple concurrent projects
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English
