We are looking for a Vehicle Examiner to join our busy Engineering team at Lothian Country! Engineering plays a critical part in helping us to provide a safe and reliable bus service for our customers. Our dedicated and highly skilled team of engineers ensure our vehicles are maintained to the highest standards and are regularly checked by DVSA and other regulatory bodies. We are proud to carry out all of our own maintenance and repairs onsite at our main garages across the city.

We are looking for a Vehicle Examiner to join our Engineering Team to carry out routine examinations, in accordance with engineering SOPs and DVSA testing requirements in an efficient and timely manner. This includes brake testing, smoke testing, checking the vehicle internally, externally and underneath to ensure that all vehicles comply with and exceed minimum DVSA and company standards at all times.

What Will You be Doing?

  • To examine vehicles to comply with and exceed minimum DVSA standards at all times
  • To provide Supervisors with the necessary accurate information to ensure that performance indicators are being achieved
  • To audit vehicles for MOT presentation
  • To provide Supervisors with information concerning reoccurring faults/defects
  • Ensuring health & safety regulations and safe working practices are adhered to
  • To ensure that all company policies relating to vehicle condition presentation and standards criteria are used at all times when assessing defects
  • To take all responsible steps to staying informed and up to date with current legislation relating to Vehicle Inspectorate MOT standards and Categorisation of Defects.

What Do You Need?

  • You must possess a full UK driving licence
  • A PCV licence is desirable, however the ability to obtain a PCV licence whilst in our employment is essential
  • Being a time served motor vehicle mechanic is desirable but not essential
  • Relevant experience with vehicle inspections
  • Ability to work under pressure and work as part of a team
  • A flexible approach to working hours
