Are you an experienced engineering professional with a passion for leading people, maintaining high standards and delivering operational excellence?

Lothian Country is looking for a motivated and driven Depot Engineer to lead our engineering operation at Livingston Garage.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join one of the UK’s most respected public transport operators and play a key role in keeping our fleet safe, reliable and available for our customers every day.

As Depot Engineer, you will lead a skilled engineering team, ensuring our vehicles are maintained to the highest standards while driving performance, productivity and reliability across the depot.

You will be instrumental in delivering our Peak Vehicle Requirement (PVR), reducing lost mileage, developing our people and maintaining a safe and efficient working environment.

  • What You’ll Be Responsible For
  • Leading the day-to-day engineering operation and supporting a 24/7 depot environment.
  • Delivering high standards of fleet maintenance and servicing to Lothian standards.
  • Driving vehicle reliability and availability to ensure operational targets are achieved.
  • Managing engineering budgets effectively and identifying opportunities for efficiency.
  • Leading, motivating and developing engineering teams, supervisors and apprentices.
  • Maintaining exceptional standards of fleet presentation, cleanliness and roadworthiness.
  • Ensuring all workshop activities comply with DVSA, Health & Safety and environmental legislation.
  • Overseeing MOT preparation and maintaining compliance with PSV requirements.
  • Creating a positive, professional and safety-focused culture throughout the depot.
  • What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking a confident leader who can inspire teams, make sound operational decisions and maintain high engineering standards.

You will ideally have

  • A Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in Passenger Transport Operations is desirable but not essential, but you must be willing to obtain this qualification.
  • Supervisory or management experience within the transport, automotive or heavy vehicle industry.
  • Strong technical knowledge and a proven engineering background.
  • Excellent communication and people management skills.
  • A thorough understanding of DVSA, PSV and current Health & Safety requirements.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • A proactive, flexible and solution-focused approach.
  • A PCV licence qualification is desirable; however, we will support the successful candidate in obtaining this where required.
