We’re looking for a creative, innovative and enthusiastic Junior Digital Designer to join our in-house digital team, based at Lothian’s main operating garage in Leith.

As the main bus operator across Edinburgh and the Lothians, Lothian is committed to delivering an outstanding customer experience through a city-wide network operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

With over 100 years of history and more than 2,500 colleagues, we are one of the region’s largest employers.

You’ll work across a wide range of digital and physical touchpoints, helping to bring our brand to life and influence the next generation of customers through creative content, technology and innovative communication.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver day-to-day design projects for the Communications team and wider business.
  • Create, develop and deliver engaging digital content across multiple platforms, ensuring communications are consistent, accessible and on brand.
  • Develop your knowledge of digital design best practice, including accessibility-first approaches, intuitive web design and UX principles.
  • Create dynamic video content, adverts and animations using motion graphics for Travel Hubs, digital platforms, bus screens, internal communications and third-party channels.
  • Contribute to the creation of creative assets across a diverse range of channels, including social media, web, print, bus design and large-format advertising.
  • Present creative concepts and design work confidently to stakeholders across the business.
  • Manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment, balancing planned work with ad-hoc requests.
  • Contribute to the development of our design system and help evolve the Lothian brand across digital and non-digital channels.
  • Maintain a consistently high standard of design and ensure brand consistency across all outputs.

About you

We’re looking for someone who is creative, curious and passionate about design, with the ability to turn ideas into engaging and effective visual communications.

You’ll have

  • The ability to bring a brand to life creatively and consistently across a range of digital touchpoints.
  • A strong understanding of digital and social channels, including You Tube, email, publications and out-of-home (OOH).
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work calmly to deadlines.
  • A flexible and proactive approach, with the confidence to adapt to changing priorities and take ownership of projects.
  • An interest in emerging creative tools, technologies and design processes, and a willingness to share ideas with the wider team.
  • A strong and varied portfolio demonstrating creativity, technical ability and high-quality design.
  • Experience of delivering digital campaigns and print collateral.
  • A positive attitude towards feedback, with a willingness to learn and continually develop your skills.
  • A degree in Design or a related discipline is desirable but not essential.
  • Essential skills and experience
  • Strong understanding of layout, typography, composition and colour.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly In Design, Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects and Premiere Pro.
  • Knowledge of animation and motion design.
  • Familiarity with Figma and a good understanding of UX principles.
  • Experience preparing artwork for print.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point.
  • A genuine passion for design and creating engaging visual experiences.
  • Knowledge or understanding of Elementor, HTML and CSS.
  • An interest in developing your skills in web design and digital technologies.
