Our client is a leading Global Hedge Fund with a long established London office who seek a Japanese speaking research analyst to join their Investigative Qualitative Research team. This team supports investment professionals with a wide array of qualitative and quantitative research to inform the decision making process throughout the lifespan of an investment; from pre-transactional assessment to exit strategy and everything in between. The Research Team plays an important role in enhancing investment performance and identifying down-side risk. The candidate will need to be highly motivated and able to work under considerable time pressure, utilising a wide array of desktop resources to provide data and analysis on companies, sectors, markets, and politics and additionally engage with an extensive network of external consultants and experts. The role reports to the Director of Research, Asia and to the Global Head of Research both based in London.
Responsibilities
- Performing detailed investigative research and due diligence with a particular focus on companies and developments in the Asia-Pacific region including but not limited to Japan, China, Korea, Hong Kong, India, Singapore and Australia.
- Extensive desktop research leveraging existing and new third party resources.
- Working with other Research team members in the US and UK.
- Leveraging existing external consultants and identifying additional resources where appropriate.
- Managing parts of the firm’s network of research consultants, including expert networks, in the region, both as an on-going task and where needed for specific deal-related research.
- Writing and analysis in the form of memos or longer briefs and reports.
Qualifications & experience
- Bachelor’s degree or higher.
- 3+ years of professional experience in journalism, intelligence, business intelligence, political risk, consulting and/or other research-intensive industry.
- Experience with research resources and databases like Factiva, LexisNexis, Bloomberg, S&P Capital IQ and regional public records sources (websites, databases).
- Good numerical and communication (both oral and written) skills.
- Comfortable managing competing priorities and working independently in a fast-paced, global environment.
- Ability to communicate confidently, effectively, and professionally with vendors, internal clients, and colleagues in other support teams (Communications, Government Affairs).
- Savvy internet research skills and persistent, creative approach to identifying information resources.
- Strong inter-personal skills and a comfort with assertiveness, persistence and creativity to solve complex and nuanced problems.
- Quantitative and/or computer science skills for data-heavy analysis are welcome.
