We are looking to recruit aconfident, friendly, enthusiastic and hard-working staff to join our reception andadmin teams at a Preston-based GP surgery. It is an exciting time to join uswhen we have recently relocated to a much bigger and better premises in BrownedgeRoad, Lostock Hall and our patient list, staff team and range of services areexpanding. The historic building is a lovely place to work, with spaciousconsulting rooms and offices and a beautiful garden setting.
We are looking for reception staff whoenjoy a busy and demanding role on the frontline, welcoming patients to thepractice and are able to calmly manage a high volume of telephone calls. And adminstaff used to working efficiently, accurately and respecting confidentiality ina professional, focused environment.
Main duties of the job
We want to recruit someone whocan demonstrate from their previous experience that they have excellent skillsin communication, accurate and methodical computer data inputting, team workand customer / patient care.
You must feel comfortable using on-screen booking and data systems. Our clinical system is EMIS Web and preference will be given to applicants with an experience of using this system previously in a GP surgery although training will be given if necessary.
The hours will be between 20-25 hours and we currently work on a two week rota where you will work one week on the AM shift and one week on the PM sheet 5 days per week and this is between the hours of 8am and 6.30pm.

Job responsibilities
Administrator
- To code additions to the patientrecord according to agreed procedures
- To undertake data / patient note tasks as directed by clinicians and the Practice Manager
- To process referrals according to set procedures in a timely and accurate matter
- To assist with the processing and return of request for medical records and reports
- To assist in preparing and issuing of letters to patients and other agencies
- To offer patients an appointment booking service, by phone and face-to-face, in a polite, helpful and professional manner
- To administer the computerised appointment booking system
- To answer patient and staff enquiries with the support of other practice staff as necessary
- To prepare repeat prescriptions in accordance with the practice policies and protocols.
- To undertake all tasks associated with the day-to-day running of the computer and telephone systems in relation to patient appointments and enquiries
- To open up the premises when required at the start of the day and make all necessary preparation to receive patients. To secure the premises at the end of the day.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- GCSE, NVQ or equivalent qualifications to demonstrate literacy, numeracy and basic computer skills
- Certificates for training in a health context e.g. infection control, data security, equality and diversity, chaperoning
- Customer care and IT training certificates
Experience
- Working with patients or residents in a health or care setting
- Experience of using computerised data systems
- Telephone work in a customer / patient context
- Working at a GP practice
- Using EMIS patient system or a close equivalent
- Experience of processing referrals for patients or residents
- Ability to demonstrate empathy and understanding for vulnerable people.
- Ability to communicate and negotiate with someone who is stressed and anxious
- Ability to prioritise and follow complex protocols
