The CIB UK Legal department is a dynamic and integral part of the bank's activities, providing expert legal advice and support across a wide range of activities. Our teams work closely with the business on transactional, advisory and governance matters and on disputes. It is led by dedicated professionals who ensure that the bank's interests are protected while adhering to the highest legal, regulatory and ethical standards. The department is involved in various initiatives, including work experience programs, diversity and inclusion efforts, and legal technology advancements, reflecting its commitment to excellence, innovation and efficiency in the legal field.
Placement Opportunities
The investment bank is pleased to offer two summer placements, within Derivatives (Master Agreement and CCFR) and Structured Securities Legal working in our Glasgow office. The placements will be paid and run from Monday 8th June until Friday 4th September 2026. The intention is for the placements to provide an opportunity for the successful candidates to experience the work environment of two related teams within the legal department of a leading financial services organisation.
The Legal teams involved are:
- (Derivatives) Master Agreement Legal which is responsible for drafting, negotiating and completing transactional documentation and providing legal advice and support to management, businesses and functions across the UK and also to CIB globally where necessary. Business lines supported include Corporate Banking, Investment Bank Europe, Fixed Income, Global Equities and Commodity Derivatives and Wealth Management;
- (Derivatives) Commodities, Credit, FX and Rates (CCFR) which provides English law advice and transaction support to a broad range of Global Markets businesses active in commodity, credit, FX or rates underlying, in close co-ordination with other CCFR colleagues in the Americas, APAC and Continental Europe;
- Structured Securities Legal, which is a new team to Glasgow, responsible for drafting and completing Notes, Warrants and Certificates to support the banks issuance business.
Preferred Experience
It is preferred that applicants are either LLB undergraduates in their final year or diploma in legal practice/LLM students.
