A well known insurance company is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its Finance team in London. Reporting to the Finance Manager, this role plays a key part in ensuring the accurate and timely completion of the monthly financial close and reporting processes across the Syndicate and wider Group entities. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified or part‑qualified accountant looking to work within a complex, fast‑paced insurance environment with strong exposure to senior stakeholders and transformation initiatives.
About the Finance Team
The Finance function comprises approximately 100 professionals and partners closely with the business to support strategic decision‑making, planning, analysis and reporting. The team is responsible for:
- Delivering high‑quality statutory, regulatory, tax and capital reporting
- Supporting multiple legal entities, including a Lloyd’s Syndicate and UK insurance operations with European branches
- Reporting to a US‑based parent company on both pillar and legal entity performance
- Managing investments, cash, and financial risk
- Providing efficient, high‑quality finance operations support within a robust control framework
- Continuous improvement, strong governance, and excellent internal customer service are central to how the team operates.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Finance Manager in delivering the month‑end close, including posting and reconciling technical and non‑technical entries
- Ensure monthly reporting is completed accurately and on time to Group and Parent company deadlines
- Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations in line with Group standards, working closely with other finance teams
- Respond to data requests from internal and external auditors
- Support additional reporting requirements and ad‑hoc analysis as needed
- Manage the transition of tasks from other teams, documenting procedures and automating processes where possible
- Identify and drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and control
- Support the reserving review process, liaising with Actuarial and FP&A teams to provide robust data models and reconciliations
- Produce clear and meaningful variance analysis and ad‑hoc reports for stakeholders
- Contribute to finance change initiatives, including finance transformation programmes and system implementations
- Build strong working relationships across FP&A, Legal Entity Reporting, and US and Local GAAP reporting teams
Compliance & Conduct
The role requires strict adherence to regulatory and internal requirements, including financial reporting standards, conduct rules, Solvency II, data protection, financial crime and whistleblowing policies. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate integrity, professionalism and a strong customer‑focused mindset at all times.
Skills & Experience
- Must have Insurance experience
- Proven experience in financial and management reporting
- Insurance or financial services experience is highly desirable
- Exposure to US GAAP is beneficial
- Strong understanding of underwriting performance drivers and actuarial concepts
- Experience with financial systems such as SAP, HFM or similar reporting tools
- Ability to analyse complex data and clearly explain results to stakeholders
