Ruby on Rails Software Engineer (Fully remote -UK)

Recent projects include:

• Rebuilding high‑traffic public services on Rails
• Upgrading complex platforms to the latest Rails releases
• Building secure authentication features (2FA), personalization APIs, and scalable back‑end systems

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain high‑quality Ruby on Rails applications and occasionally work with other languages and frameworks when needed.
• Use AI tools (Cursor, Claude Code, Droid, etc.) to accelerate high-quality delivery — not replace engineering judgment.
• Help shape architecture, technical decisions, and system design.
• Troubleshoot issues, improve performance, and suggest better ways of doing things.
• Turn wireframes, mock-ups, and user stories into well‑designed, user‑focused features.
• Take part in code reviews and contribute to a thoughtful, high‑standards engineering culture.
• Own features end‑to‑end—from idea to deployment and monitoring.

Qualifications

• Strong Ruby on Rails experience, ideally across multiple production applications.
• Comfortable working in existing codebases and shipping within real-world constraints.
• Experience with SQL (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and some exposure to NoSQL stores.
• Sound understanding of version control, CI/CD, testing, and deployment pipelines.
• Skilled in using and prompting LLM’s (we want developers who leverage AI, not fall back on it)
