About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team and lead critical migration initiatives involving a high volume number of applications, including complex payments systems. This is a key role in a high-impact project aimed at modernising our data infrastructure and ensuring seamless transition from legacy platforms to PostgreSQL.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the end-to-end migration of databases for 34 business-critical applications to PostgreSQL.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute migration strategies with minimal downtime and risk.
- Ensure the integrity, security, and performance of databases throughout the migration lifecycle.
- Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and payments teams to align data models and application requirements.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database issues, performance bottlenecks, and replication challenges.
- Develop documentation, migration runbooks, and operational procedures.
- Contribute to the long-term optimisation, automation, and scalability of our PostgreSQL environments.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience as a PostgreSQL DBA, particularly in large-scale migration projects.
- Deep understanding of PostgreSQL architecture, configuration, tuning, and security best practices.
- Experience with payment systems, transactional data, and high-availability requirements.
- Familiarity with legacy-to-PostgreSQL migration tools and processes (e.g., AWS DMS, pg_dump/pg_restore, logical replication).
- Strong scripting skills (e.g., Bash, Python) and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.
- Ability to manage complex dependencies and stakeholder communication across multiple applications.
Desirable:
- Experience with cloud-based PostgreSQL (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure Database for PostgreSQL).
- Knowledge of PCI-DSS compliance or other financial services regulations.
