About the role
Our Retail client is seeking a Network Engineer with deep expertise in Zabbix to lead the migration of legacy network monitoring tools to a modern, supported platform. This role supports the Network Tooling Refresh initiative, focused on replacing end-of-life tools with a robust Zabbix-based solution. You’ll be instrumental in designing, developing, and implementing Zabbix to replace Cacti Monitoring and a bespoke Branch Asset Tracker, ensuring seamless integration within a Cisco network environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Tool Migration & Integration
- Refactor existing tools (Cacti & Branch Asset Tracker) into Zabbix
- Configure SNMP-based data collection and visualisation
- Design & Documentation
- Contribute to High-Level Design (HLD)
- Deliver Low-Level Design (LLD) documentation
- Development Tasks
- Build and configure Zabbix proxies via code
- Update network devices to communicate with Zabbix via SNMP
- Onboard devices into Zabbix and build custom dashboards
- Testing & Implementation
- Develop and execute test plans
- Manage change control and deployment
- Provide post-deployment support
- Service Transition
- Conduct Knowledge Transfer to BAU (Business-As-Usual) teams
- Provide support documentation for ongoing maintenance
Essential Skills & Experience
- Extensive hands-on experience with Zabbix (architecture, proxy setup, dashboard creation)
- Strong understanding of SNMP and network monitoring principles
- Proven experience in a Cisco network environment
- Experience with tool migration and network asset tracking
- Ability to work across design, development, testing, and implementation phases
- Strong documentation and communication skills
