About the role

Our Retail client is seeking a Network Engineer with deep expertise in Zabbix to lead the migration of legacy network monitoring tools to a modern, supported platform. This role supports the Network Tooling Refresh initiative, focused on replacing end-of-life tools with a robust Zabbix-based solution. You’ll be instrumental in designing, developing, and implementing Zabbix to replace Cacti Monitoring and a bespoke Branch Asset Tracker, ensuring seamless integration within a Cisco network environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Tool Migration & Integration
    • Refactor existing tools (Cacti & Branch Asset Tracker) into Zabbix
    • Configure SNMP-based data collection and visualisation
  • Design & Documentation
    • Contribute to High-Level Design (HLD)
    • Deliver Low-Level Design (LLD) documentation
  • Development Tasks
    • Build and configure Zabbix proxies via code
    • Update network devices to communicate with Zabbix via SNMP
    • Onboard devices into Zabbix and build custom dashboards
  • Testing & Implementation
    • Develop and execute test plans
    • Manage change control and deployment
    • Provide post-deployment support
  • Service Transition
    • Conduct Knowledge Transfer to BAU (Business-As-Usual) teams
    • Provide support documentation for ongoing maintenance

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Extensive hands-on experience with Zabbix (architecture, proxy setup, dashboard creation)
  • Strong understanding of SNMP and network monitoring principles
  • Proven experience in a Cisco network environment
  • Experience with tool migration and network asset tracking
  • Ability to work across design, development, testing, and implementation phases
  • Strong documentation and communication skills
