Contract Length: 6 months (with extension potential)

Day Rate: Competitive (circa £553/day depending on experience)
My client is seeking an experienced Integration Architect to support a major transformation programme within a central government environment. Due to the highly sensitive nature of the data involved, the successful candidate must be eligible for - or already hold - CTC security clearance.
In this role, you will lead the design, governance, and delivery of API-led integrations across a complex enterprise landscape. You will work closely with solution architects, business analysts, SMEs, and delivery teams to ensure secure, scalable, and maintainable integration patterns aligned to my clients standards and government-grade security protocols.
Key Responsibilities- Integration & API Architecture
- Lead end-to-end API and interface architecture for internal systems and external third-party applications.
- Produce detailed API specifications, canonical data models, and interface contracts.
- Design and document push/pull workflows, synchronisation logic, and integration business rules.
- Define API SLAs, RPO/RTO targets, and operational design standards.
- Provide architectural leadership across the MuleSoft Anypoint Platform (API Manager, Exchange, flows, policies, pipelines).
- Design modular, reusable API-led connectivity (System, Process, Experience APIs).
- Oversee development, conduct design reviews, and ensure compliance with integration standards.
- Apply best-practice integration patterns including orchestration, mapping, error-handling, and observability.
- Apply robust API security controls including OAuth2, JWT, TLS 1.2+, zero-trust patterns and IP allow-listing.
- Ensure alignment with ISO27001, Cyber Essentials+, secure SDLC and audit requirements.
- Support secure design reviews, threat modelling and risk assessments.
- Support system testing, data loads, reporting validation and end-to-end integration testing.
- Strong understanding of ETL, data modelling, IDocs, JSON/XML schemas, and event-driven architecture.
- 5-10+ years in integration architecture and enterprise integration patterns.
- 3-5+ years hands-on experience with MuleSoft Anypoint Platform.
- Strong knowledge of RAML/OpenAPI, data contracts, async APIs, and canonical modelling.
- Experience integrating with ERP/CAFM/field applications (Planon experience advantageous).
- Understanding of batch, synchronous, and Real Time integrations.
- Familiarity with SAP BTP, CPI, and broader enterprise landscapes is highly beneficial.
- Excellent documentation, governance and stakeholder-facing communication skills.
- Desirable certifications: MuleSoft Integration Architect, TOGAF, or equivalent.
