A well-established investment bank in the City is looking for a Java Developer to join its Back Office Change function, focused on modernising a range of FIS-based back and middle office systems. You'll be working hands‑on with legacy code, bringing systems up to current standards, while working closely with database and reporting teams and collaborating downstream with Front Office on changes and projects. This is as much about strong stakeholder engagement as it is about hands‑on delivery - you'll be talking directly to the business to clarify requirements and document the what, why and how.
What You'll Be Doing
- Modernising and maintaining FIS-based back/middle office systems, working across a varied legacy tech landscape of differing ages and complexity
- Delivering a mix of small incremental changes (typically 2-week cycles) and larger project work
- Engaging directly with business stakeholders to clarify requirements, then documenting and communicating decisions clearly
- Supporting reference data and operations-focused systems, with useful crossover into settlements
- Using AI tooling where appropriate to accelerate development, while owning the output
What We’re Looking For
- Strong, hands‑on core Java, Spring/Spring Boot, and relational database/SQL experience
- FIS systems experience - this is key for the team
- Excellent communication skills, confident engaging with business stakeholders across varying levels of seniority
- Experience working in CI/CD environments with source control (Git)
- Comfortable working across a varied legacy codebase and translating business needs into technical delivery
- Any cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure or GCP) - a bonus rather than essential
- Exposure to settlement systems or trade lifecycle/post-trade events
