You will join one of the UK’s leading financial services companies, committed to transforming how data is engineered, managed and leveraged to support business decision-making. Our client is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to play a key role in shaping and delivering high-quality data engineering solutions. This is a highly influential role where you will work within cross-functional teams to design, build and optimise data pipelines. You will also act as a technical expert within the wider data function, helping to standardise processes, reduce manual effort and improve the quality and reliability of data platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain scalable, robust data pipelines and data engineering solutions
- Drive automation and standardisation across data engineering processes to improve efficiency and quality
- Provide technical leadership, coaching and mentoring to other engineers within the team
- Ensure best practices in testing, governance, security and data quality are consistently applied
- Collaborate with stakeholders and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality data products
- Oversee and support third-party delivery where required, ensuring standards are met
- Contribute to continuous improvement of tools, frameworks and engineering methodologies
- Support operational excellence through monitoring, optimisation and issue resolution
Requirements
- Extensive experience in data engineering and DataOps within a commercial, Agile environment
- Strong expertise in building and automating scalable data pipelines
- Hands-on experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g. AWS including S3, Glue, Redshift, Lambda or equivalents)
- Strong programming skills in SQL, Python, Spark and/or Scala
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code and automation tools
- Familiarity with containerisation and orchestration tools (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform)
- Strong understanding of data governance, testing and quality assurance practices
- Proven ability to lead, mentor and influence technical teams
Salary up to £76,000 + up to 20% bonus. Hybrid working: Once a week or fortnight in the office. 28 days holiday plus bank holidays (option to buy and sell). Life assurance (6x annual salary). Personal pension with matched contributions. Ongoing training and opportunities for development.
