A growing digital entertainment business is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to take ownership of a major data migration and reporting transformation project. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in autonomy, enjoys building from the ground up, and wants to create a scalable reporting ecosystem that will become "their own".
The company was founded in 2015 and began operating in 2018. As part of its evolution, the CTO has overseen the initial build of a legacy reporting application which is no longer fit for purpose. An external consultancy has already helped migrate the foundations to a modern AWS‑based data stack (Redshift, Lambda, Glue). Now, the business needs a hands‑on Senior Data Engineer to take over from the consultancy, complete the migration, and build out the new reporting landscape.
You will be stepping into a role where you are the sole Data Engineer - a genuine "one‑person army" - with full ownership to design, refine, and deliver a best‑in‑class data reporting environment.
What You’ll Do:- Take ownership of a partially migrated AWS reporting ecosystem and finish the build‑out.
- Rewrite, optimise, and modernise existing reports for the new architecture.
- Build new reports, validation rules, and data quality frameworks.
- Extend and enhance the ETL processes across Python, Lambda, and Glue.
- Improve system performance including caching, optimisation, and observability.
- Work closely with the CTO to understand historical architecture and current business needs.
- Ensure strong data quality, reliability, and performance across all pipelines.
Excellent Python skills and experience building scalable ETL processes. Skilled in SQL and working with large datasets. A track record of improving or rebuilding systems from scratch. Strong communication skills - must be a confident UK‑based professional able to work closely with senior stakeholders.
