We are seeking a Design Engineer to help our client redefine the future of AI‑driven digital experiences for a major national news platform accessed by millions every day. In this role, you will sit at the intersection of design, engineering, AI, and product-shipping production‑ready features while shaping the next generation of intelligent tools and user experiences.
You might prototype in Figma in the morning and deploy real code the same afternoon. You will collaborate closely with product, engineering, and design leads to create AI‑enhanced features that feel intuitive, polished, and genuinely useful.
You will thrive here if you:
- Get excited about shipping, not just ideating
- Can discuss APIs and component architecture as confidently as typography and interaction design
- Love building products at scale
- See a beautiful interaction and think: "I could build that"
- Believe AI should enhance - not replace - human creativity
What you will do:
- Ship AI‑powered features that transform how users search, discover, and interact with content
- Prototype rapidly using the tools that get you there fastest (Figma, v0, Cursor, React, Python, and more)
- Deliver end‑to‑end: from concept to production‑quality code
- Bridge disciplines, speaking both design and engineering fluently
- Set the bar for thoughtful, high‑quality AI integrations
- Experiment relentlessly with LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG systems, and emerging AI capabilities
- Influence product direction through working prototypes that unlock new possibilities
What we are looking for:
- Strong design sensibility with a portfolio of shipped consumer products
- Production experience in React, TypeScript, and modern web development
- Hands‑on AI experience (LLMs, APIs, prompt engineering)
- Product thinking that balances user needs, business priorities, and technical realities
- A track record of shipping fast - without compromising quality
- Systems thinking with an eye for reusable components and scalable patterns
Nice to have:
- iOS/Android experience for widget or native‑focused work
- Python experience for backend or AI tooling
- Familiarity with RAG, vector databases, and embeddings
- Experience in media, publishing, or content‑driven products
- Open‑source work or passion projects
- Design system expertise
