Technology sits at the heart of the business, and this role will play a key part in maintaining and evolving a secure, scalable and high-performing database environment. This is a hands‑on Senior DBA role, working across infrastructure, application and reliability engineering.
You’ll ensure database environments remain stable, efficient and increasingly automated, while contributing to improvements in tooling, processes and ways of working. Working closely with the Lead DBA and cross-functional teams (DevOps, Platform, SRE, Engineering), you’ll help deliver resilient, modern database solutions in a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain production and non-production database environments
- Optimise performance, replication, backups and high availability setups
- Troubleshoot complex performance, reliability and capacity issues
- Apply patching, upgrades and security hardening
- Build and improve automation and provisioning processes
- Implement IaC and configuration management (Ansible, Terraform)
- Embed observability, alerting and resilience best practices with SRE teams
- Support schema design and performance tuning standards
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team development
- Participate in incident response and root cause analysis
- Identify scaling challenges and bottlenecks
- Support adoption of new technologies and tooling
- Maintain documentation and operational playbooks
- MariaDB, MySQL or similar RDBMS experience
- Strong knowledge of replication, partitioning and performance tuning
- Linux administration and scripting (Bash, Python, Shell)
- Experience with automation tools (Ansible, Terraform)
- Strong troubleshooting across database and system layers
- Familiarity with CI/CD and observability tooling
- Cloud‑managed databases (e.g. AWS RDS)
- DR, data protection and retention strategies
- Monitoring tools such as Prometheus or Grafana
- Be part of a modern, automation‑driven environment
