Overview
Senior Engineering Manager (AI) to lead and grow engineering teams delivering AI-enabled products and platforms. You will coach, influence, and shape ways of working, balancing AI adoption with quality and sustainable delivery. The role sits at an early AI maturity stage, offering opportunities to shape culture, standards, and governance while delivering measurable outcomes. You will work across engineering, product, and delivery communities in a secure, complex environment, driving impact through people and practices.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, coaching, and support to AI-enabled engineering teams
- Shape team culture, collaboration, and professional standards
- Advance AI-assisted development practices balancing speed with quality
- Influence technical direction with senior engineers and leads
- Design and implement modern ways of working for AI opportunities and constraints
- Support delivery in secure environments balancing governance with pragmatism
- Translate architecture, tooling, and AI workflows for non-technical stakeholders
- Build cross-functional relationships across engineering, product, and delivery
- Identify opportunities to improve productivity, resilience, and consistency through better practices
- Guide teams through change, ambiguity, and shifting priorities focusing on outcomes
Key requirements
- Strong software engineering background with substantial IC experience
- Experience leading, supporting, or influencing engineers in delivery environments
- Hands-on exposure to AI-enabled software development, including acceleration and experimentation
- At least 12 months experience in or with AI-focused teams
- Solid understanding of modern software engineering and infrastructure practices
- Comfort working where processes are still forming
- Ability to balance technical realities with people considerations
- Clear, confident communicator with credibility across stakeholders
- Resilient, adaptable, and able to lead without complete certainty
