We're working on behalf of a well-established public sector organisation to find a Senior Azure Cloud Engineer to join their Strategy, Architecture & Innovation team. This is a business delivering essential services to communities across Scotland, currently going through a significant cloud-first digital transformation.
This is a hands-on engineering role at heart, with room to bring architectural thinking where it's useful. You'll help set up landing zones and subscriptions for major projects, support colleagues after handover, and play a key part in mentoring more junior members of the team as they develop their skills.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and configure secure, scalable Azure landing zones and subscriptions for new and ongoing projects
- Own infrastructure delivery through Infrastructure as Code - no manual changes are made outside of this process
- Apply networking and security best practice across the Azure estate
- Work closely with project teams during setup, then provide ongoing support as needed once delivery is underway
- Mentor and support junior colleagues and graduate placements, sharing knowledge and best practice
- Collaborate with the wider architecture function to keep infrastructure aligned with broader cloud strategy
- Contribute to the team's continuous improvement as we develop our cloud platform
What You'll Need
- Hands-on Azure experience, with a strong networking and security background
- Infrastructure as Code experience is a must - Bicep is our tool of choice, but strong Terraform experience is equally welcome
- DevOps experience, ideally with Azure DevOps and Git-based CI/CD
- Comfort and enthusiasm for mentoring less experienced colleagues
- Some exposure to architectural thinking is helpful, though this is primarily a hands-on engineering role
- No specific industry background required - we welcome applicants from any sector
Practical Details
- Salary: 45,699 - 51,184
- Location: Based in Scotland, hybrid working across a network of sites
What's In It For You
- Generous annual leave allowance, with the option to buy and sell
- Local government-style pension scheme
- Annual bonus scheme
- Paid volunteering time
- Family-friendly policies covering adoption, maternity, and parental leave
- Additional employee discount benefits
