Role Overview
We’re looking for a hands‑on, commercially focused Branch Manager to lead the daily operations of our busy plumbing and heating depot at our Dagenham branch. This role is ideal for someone with merchant or trade counter experience who thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in delivering outstanding service to trade and retail customers. As Branch Manager, you will oversee all aspects of depot performance, ensuring smooth operations, strong team leadership, and consistent business growth. You’ll play a key role in driving sales, managing stock and suppliers, and maintaining high standards across the branch.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, motivate, and develop the counter team to achieve both sales and operational targets
- Deliver exceptional customer service across the trade counter, telephone, and outbound channels
- Drive branch profitability through effective promotion of products, upselling, and commercial awareness
- Manage stock levels, ensuring accuracy, availability, and strong relationships with key suppliers
- Oversee operational standards, including compliance, cash handling, health & safety, and depot procedures
- Support daily branch routines, including opening/closing, workflow planning, and task delegation
- Monitor performance, identify training needs, and support continuous team development
- Ensure efficient warehouse operations, including goods‑in, picking, packing, and stock control
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience in a branch management, team leader, or senior trade counter role
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to identify growth opportunities
- Merchant industry experience—preferably within plumbing and heating, though not essential
- Excellent communication, leadership, and people‑management skills
- Confident decision‑maker with strong organisational ability
- Comfortable leading from the front in a hands‑on, customer‑facing trade environment
