We are looking for an inspiring Teacher of Spanish and French to join the MFL Department on a 1‑year fixed maternity cover.
About the Department
The MFL Department at Lord Wandsworth College is organised into French and Spanish departments, each with its own Head of Department. We are a strong team of 11 full‑ and part‑time staff, including a Spanish assistant and a French assistant, and we work cohesively and positively together. We follow the EDEXCEL courses in Spanish and French for GCSE and AQA for A Level. You will be expected to teach Spanish at KS3 and KS4, French at KS3, KS4 and KS5, and be confident in preparing pupils for Oxbridge.
Student Opportunities
All pupils are strongly encouraged to study a modern foreign language at GCSE, and many choose to study both French and Spanish. We offer a range of co‑curricular events, such as regular film evenings and theatre visits, and our language prefects are involved in many departmental and whole‑school initiatives. We organise a biennial homestay for GCSE and A‑Level pupils to France and Spain.
Teaching Environment
Each classroom is equipped with wireless internet access and a Smart TV. Pupils access resources via their own devices and teaching is supported by Microsoft OneNote. There is a central bank of resources, a staff area and a library space containing a range of books for general reading and for reading around A Level topics.
Responsibilities
- Deliver Spanish and French lessons at KS3, KS4 and KS5 levels.
- Prepare students for Oxbridge and other university admissions.
- Fulfil professional duties of a teacher in accordance with College policies under the direction of the Headmaster.
- Contribute fully to college life, including tutoring, co‑curricular involvement, boarding house duties, cover duties and attending parents' evenings for the year groups taught.
- Liaise with parents regarding student progress.
Qualifications & Requirements
Appointment will be made subject to receipt of satisfactory references and an enhanced DBS check. Candidates should have appropriate teaching qualifications and experience teaching English language subjects at the secondary level.
