Overview
GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE: The role of the Rail Grinding Trainee is to learn all aspects of maintaining, repairing, and operating rail grinders safely to ensure the machine meets and exceeds all safety, reliability and performance targets.
Essential Position Functions:
- Consistently follows safe work processes, procedures and rules.
- Ensure all work performed is to a high standard in a timely manner to ensure the machine meets or exceeds our performance targets.
- Inspects the machine to identify problems, defects and hazards then communicates with supervisor for next course of action and performs repairs as required.
- Logs all parts used, to help keep accurate stock levels for machine and maintain correct reordering process.
- Logs all work completed to maintain accurate fault and repair detail.
- Is able to navigate the Schematics, VMI, VOI and any other technical documentation and perform PM inspections and tasks for relevant grade.
- Keep all tools and equipment in good condition, ensuring tools are used correctly and reported if damaged.
- Assists with maintaining a motivated crew, and a safe and reliable machine that meets or exceeds our reliability targets.
- Understands and accepts the realities of running a 24/7 operation in a high customer demand environment that may require personal time commitment or sacrifice to solve urgent issues.
- Regularly communicates with Supervisor and keeps him informed in real time of issues.
- Keeps crew vans in good condition, ensuring any issues or damage are reported in real time.
- Gain all operations and maintenance related competencies for their grade and maintain them.
- Updates and maintains personal development log.
- Ensures all shift paperwork is completed accurately and on time.
- Reports all incidents in real time to agreed persons, supplying all necessary paperwork and photos.
Safety Focus:
- Leads by example, leads the maintenance crew by consistently following safe work processes, procedures and rules.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: GCSE Maths & English Grade C/4 (or equivalent).
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in relevant mechanical/electrical subject.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- To hold/be assessed as competent in relevant/appropriate Loram UK competence management modules or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum 1 yearsβ experience in mechanical/electrical engineering.
