We are looking for a talented and motivated ABF Developer to join our technical team at Loqus Group. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a mature, business-critical platform while developing deep expertise in Ingres Application By Forms (ABF) and Ingres C with embedded SQL. Full structured training is provided from day one.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse incident reports and failure logs to identify trends and implement remedies
  • Develop and maintain system monitoring tools to proactively identify issues
  • Build scripts and tools to streamline resolution of recurring incidents
  • Make changes to existing ABF and Ingres C code and develop new functionality
  • Collaborate with team members on technical specifications and quality delivery
  • Develop and execute test plans for new system components
  • Lead the build of a new internal Knowledge Base covering system design, fault investigation, and resolution guidance
  • Create user-facing self-help documentation to reduce support dependency

Must-Have Skills

  • Proven software development experience (commercial or academic)
  • Working knowledge of C programming
  • Linux/Unix command-line proficiency
  • Strong problem diagnosis and resolution skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage own workload
  • Clear written communication and documentation skills
  • Analytical mindset — able to interpret logs and incident data

Nice to Have

  • Java development experience
  • SQL / relational database knowledge (Ingres a plus)
  • Scripting skills (Shell, Python, or Perl)
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g. Nagios, Grafana)
  • Experience with knowledge bases or wikis (e.g. Confluence)
  • Version control (Git)
  • Agile / SDLC methodology exposure

Additional Information

This role includes participation in an on-call and out-of-hours support rota, shared across the team on rotation. On-call duties will not begin until at least 6 months after your start date, giving you full time to onboard and get up to speed.
