Role Overview

As a QA Engineer you will plan, design, develop and maintain high‑quality testing practices across services and projects that underpin critical public infrastructure.

You will collaborate with Lead Engineers, Dev Ops and multidisciplinary teams to build robust, repeatable testing practices and help deliver the UK’s most important tech‑for‑good projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, design, develop and execute tests to assure high‑quality software solutions for public sector and civic impact projects.
• Take responsibility for QA of services or parts of larger services across design, build, assurance, deployment, operation and continual improvement stages.
• Work with Lead Engineers to understand designs and maintain up‑to‑date, repeatable test scripts.
• Collaborate with Dev Ops engineers to implement CI/CD pipelines supporting ongoing quality assurance.
• Build effective working relationships with client counterparts across government and public sector bodies.
• Collaborate across Engineering, User‑Centred Design, Service Operations, Delivery Management and Data Science disciplines.
• Play an active role in driving innovation, best practice and community of practice events (Lead level).
• Structure and provide assurance for the work of other QA practitioners.
• Required Qualifications
• Experience in Quality Assurance across the full software development lifecycle, including functional and automated testing.
• Experience with cloud‑based solutions (Google Cloud Platform, AWS, Azure).
• Experience working in agile, continuous integration environments (Scrum, Jira, Confluence).
• Effective communicator, able to explain complex information to clients and stakeholder bodies.
• Experience with Sonar Qube.
• Experience in non‑functional QA practices: performance benchmarking, resilience/chaos testing, scalability, accessibility and security (penetration testing).
• Willingness to maintain up‑to‑date skills through CPD, including certifications.
• Nice to Have
• Experience in a professional services/consultancy environment.
• Familiarity with the GOV. UK Digital Service Standard and Technology Code of Practice.
• Experience structuring and assuring work for less experienced team members (Lead level).
• Experience taking ownership of QA on projects or parts of larger projects.
