We're helping a well-established financial services organisation build out a brand-new Manchester office, and we're looking for a Data Gov Analyst to join a close-knit, six-person data team right at the ground floor of that growth. This isn't a role where you'll be handed a finished data governance strategy and told to run it — the framework already exists, but there's genuine scope to shape how it's applied day to day, and to build your own expertise in data governance as you go. What you'll be doing:
- Tracing data back to its source — understanding where it comes from, how (or whether) it's documented, and closing the gaps where it isn't.
- Helping build and maintain a central set of business definitions, so the wider organisation is working from one shared understanding of its data.
- Partnering closely with stakeholders across the business — including senior managers and heads of department — to embed good data practices into everyday ways of working.
- Getting hands-on with data analysis (Excel, SQL, Python) and modern data tooling (Databricks, Power BI) — you don't need to be an expert in these on day one, but you do need to be comfortable learning fast.
- Prioritising and managing your own workload within a large organisation, where there's naturally more good work to do than time to do it — being able to triage and focus matters here.
What we're looking for:
- Some prior experience in data governance, data quality, or a closely related data discipline.
- A genuinely detail-orientated, analytical mindset.
- Confidence with Excel and SQL as standard; exposure to Python, Databricks, or Power BI is a strong plus, though we care more about your appetite to pick up new tools than what you already know.
- Strong communication and stakeholder skills — you'll be a business partner from day one, working across the organisation rather than sitting behind a screen.
- A background in financial services or insurance is preferred, but we're open-minded on the specific sector.
