I’m working with a fast-growing online retail group that is entering a really exciting period of growth - and they’re now building out their Buying function from the ground up.

The business operates across a number of established online retail brands and are now investing heavily in the Buying team, making this a great opportunity to join at an early stage and help shape how the function develops.

The Buyer role

  • They’re looking for a commercially minded Buyer with FMCG, Beauty or Tech buying experience who knows how to spot a good deal and is confident working with suppliers.
  • You’ll be involved across the full buying cycle:
    • Sourcing and building relationships with new and existing suppliers
    • Negotiating costs, margins and commercial terms
    • Using sales, stock and market data to make commercial buying decisions
    • Managing the process from sourcing through to order and intake
    • Working towards margin, stock-turn and commercial targets
    • Helping shape and develop the new Buying team and wider buying strategy

FMCG, Beauty or Tech buying experience is essential, alongside strong supplier relationships, commercial instinct and the confidence to negotiate.

Why consider it?

This isn't simply joining an established Buying team and taking over an existing category. You're joining while the team is being built. There is genuine scope to have an influence on how the Buying function operates, the suppliers they work with, the deals they secure and the direction the business takes as it continues to grow.

If you're a Buyer who enjoys fast-paced environments, finding great deals and having a genuine commercial impact, I'd love to have a confidential chat.

How to prepare for a job interview at Loop Recruitment

Show Off Your Customer Service Skills

Retail is all about providing an exceptional customer experience, so be ready to discuss your past customer service stories. We should have examples on hand of how we've handled difficult situations or gone above and beyond to meet a customer's needs. These anecdotes will bring your application to life!

Familiarity with Point of Sale Systems

Many retail roles require us to work with Point of Sale (POS) systems, so it's a good idea to brush up on any relevant software you’ve used before. If you’re familiar with systems like Shopify or Square, don’t forget to mention this during the interview. Highlighting technical proficiency can set us apart from other candidates!

Understand Product Knowledge

Be prepared to discuss the products that the store sells and how we can contribute to their sales. Showing enthusiasm for the products and a willingness to learn can impress interviewers. We should research popular items or trends in the industry before the interview, so we can speak confidently about them.

Be Ready for Role-Playing Scenarios

Many retail interviews include role-playing scenarios where we might have to deal with a difficult customer or upsell a product. Practising these scenarios with a friend or family member can help us feel more comfortable. The key here is to showcase our problem-solving skills and ability to remain calm under pressure!
