As part of the business expansion, we're in search of a commercially focused Head of UK Transport Network and Carrier Management to lead the development and optimisation of their outsourced transport network strategy. Unlike traditional logistics providers with owned fleet operations, this business operates through a highly collaborative carrier model, making this a critical strategic leadership role focused on carrier partnerships, network optimisation, transport procurement, and customer delivery excellence.
This is an outstanding opportunity for a commercially astute transport leader with strong market relationships, deep operational expertise, and the ability to build scalable transport solutions through external carrier networks in a fast-paced, customer-centric logistics environment.
The Role: The Head of UK Transport Network and Carrier Management will play a pivotal role in overseeing end to end operations, leading multi-site UK external Transport operations. Your responsibilities will include:
- Develop and lead a UK-wide outsourced transport and carrier strategy that delivers scalable, flexible, and commercially competitive logistics solutions for customers across multiple sectors.
- Build, manage, and strengthen relationships with external hauliers, carrier partners, and transport providers to ensure high service standards, network coverage, and operational resilience.
- Identify, negotiate, and onboard new carrier partners to expand network capability, improve service offerings, and support new business growth.
- Manage carrier performance through robust KPI, SLA, and cost management frameworks, driving continuous improvement across delivery, compliance, and customer experience metrics.
- Act as the key transport and carrier subject matter expert within the business, supporting commercial teams on customer solutions, tenders, and transport-related opportunities.
- Develop commercially effective transport solutions without owned fleet dependency, leveraging market knowledge, carrier relationships, and operational insight to maximise efficiency and profitability.
- Lead transport procurement activities including rate negotiations, contract management, and tender processes to secure competitive and sustainable carrier partnerships.
- Work collaboratively with warehousing, operations, customer service, and business development teams to ensure seamless end-to-end logistics execution for customers.
- Maintain strong understanding of UK transport legislation, compliance requirements, and market dynamics to ensure all carrier activities meet legal and operational standards.
- Bring deep industry knowledge and established market relationships from either a competing 3PL environment or directly from a haulier/carrier background, with the ability to transition from supplier-side expertise into a strategic client-focused leadership role.
The Candidate: The successful candidate for the Head of UK Transport Network and Carrier Management position will possess:
- A Logistics Distribution and Supply Chain Background - Essential.
- 5+ Years senior Transport experience either in a similar role or working for a haulier / carrier - Essential.
- Proven experience in managing Open / Closed Book operations - Advantageous.
- Knowledge of commercial tenders and up selling transport solutions - Essential.
- Previous budget management of +£25m - Essential.
- A true passion for providing excellent service and continuous improvement - Essential.
- A proven history of strong leadership abilities, whilst fostering a culture of excellence and an ability to identify and develop talent within - Essential.
- Commutable UK wide, with travel required to the East Midlands region c.3 days per week - Essential.
