Transport Supervisor

Location: Sunbury on Thames
Salary: £37,000

The Opportunity

Loom Talent is working with a well-established logistics and transport business to recruit an experienced Transport Supervisor to support the day-to-day running of a busy transport operation.

This is a hands-on operational role with responsibility for drivers, fleet performance, transport compliance, customer service and operational efficiency. You will play a key role in ensuring the operation runs safely, efficiently and in line with customer and regulatory requirements.

The Role

Working closely with the wider management team, you will oversee the daily transport operation, ensuring customers receive a high level of service while maintaining strong standards across driver management, fleet compliance and operational performance.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Managing the day-to-day transport operation and driver workforce.
• Coordinating company vehicles and subcontracted transport to deliver customer requirements efficiently.
• Ensuring drivers are appropriately briefed and debriefed.
• Acting as a key point of contact for customers and supporting strong customer relationships.
• Monitoring transport performance and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and service levels.
• Managing driver performance, training and development, including Driver CPC requirements.
• Carrying out regular checks on vehicles, trailers and fleet equipment.
• Managing vehicle defects, inspections, servicing, MOTs and other fleet maintenance requirements.
• Ensuring accurate and up-to-date fleet and driver records are maintained.
• Monitoring tachograph records, drivers' hours, infringements and associated follow-up actions.
• Supporting compliance with Operator Licence requirements and relevant transport legislation.
• Ensuring vehicles are operated within legal weight and safety requirements.
• Managing transport technology and fleet management systems.
• Supporting Health & Safety compliance, including risk assessments, safe systems of work and toolbox talks.
• Producing relevant operational and compliance reports.
• Providing out-of-hours support when required.

About You

We're looking for someone with solid experience within a transport environment, ideally with experience supervising drivers and managing a busy day-to-day operation.

You'll ideally have:

• Previous experience in a transport supervisory or similar operational role.
• Strong knowledge of transport operations and fleet compliance.
• Experience working with Operator Licence requirements.
• Good understanding of drivers' hours and tachograph legislation.
• Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Experience using transport or fleet management systems.
• A CPC / Certificate of Professional Competence, or a willingness to work towards the qualification.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• A hands-on, proactive approach to problem solving.
• The confidence to lead, motivate and develop drivers and operational teams.
• The ability to build effective relationships with customers, suppliers, drivers and colleagues.
• Flexibility to deal with changing operational requirements and unexpected challenges.
