This Operations Manager opportunity is with a growing SME operation looking for a hands-on individual to effectively become the number two within the business, helping drive standards, efficiency and operational performance forward.
The role requires a practical, proactive Operations Manager who is comfortable balancing day-to-day operational involvement with broader compliance and cost management responsibilities. This is not a corporate management position - the business needs someone visible on the warehouse floor, capable of improving processes, challenging inefficiencies and taking ownership across multiple operational areas.
You’ll play a key role within the wider Logistics distribution and supply chain function, overseeing transport, warehousing, compliance and operational performance while helping support the future growth of the business.
Key responsibilities:- Managing day-to-day warehouse and operational activity across the business
- Taking ownership of O Licence and fleet compliance for a small in-house fleet
- Managing vehicle servicing schedules, 6-week checks, audits and day-to-day transport compliance
- Planning routes effectively to maximise internal fleet efficiency while strategically managing external courier relationships
- Driving courier cost reductions while maintaining strong customer service standards
- Leading warehouse Health & Safety standards, audits and staff training requirements
- Managing yearly H&S audits and ensuring site compliance remains at a high standard
- Supporting import/export activity between Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, including use of the Trader Support Service (TSS)
- Managing waste, recycling processes and associated operational costs/taxes
- Overseeing on-site equipment management to maximise value, efficiency and operational performance
- Working closely with the wider Logistics distribution and supply chain operation to identify efficiencies and continuous improvements
- Previous experience operating as an Operations Manager within warehousing, transport or distribution environments
- Strong understanding of transport compliance, fleet management and O Licence responsibilities
- Experience managing courier relationships, transport costs and delivery performance
- Practical Health & Safety management experience within warehouse operations
- Familiarity with import/export processes involving Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland movements, ideally including Trader Support Service (TSS) exposure
- Strong operational and commercial awareness with a focus on efficiency and cost control
- Comfortable working within SME environments where visibility and hands-on involvement are essential
- Experience operating within a broader Logistics distribution and supply chain function
