An exciting opportunity has arisen for a strategic and commercially minded Head of Carrier Management to join a market-leading 3PL logistics provider.
This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing all group transport activity across the UK and Europe, ensuring the delivery of efficient, cost-effective and customer-centric solutions. Reporting to the UK Operations Director, this role works across an outsourced c. £5m annual transport spend, making key financial, SLA and environmental improvements for both the employer (3PL) and its customers. This role operates on a hybrid working pattern, with an average expectation of 3 days on site (Romsey area), and 2 days working from home.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead the end-to-end carrier management strategy across the UK and European regions.
- Negotiate and manage contracts with hauliers, subcontractors and carriers to ensure service excellence and commercial value.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with key logistics partners and internal stakeholders.
- Provide oversight of all transport activity, ensuring operational performance, service levels, compliance and cost targets are consistently met.
- Manage and develop a small team (2-3 direct reports) covering transport analysis, proof of delivery (POD) compliance and day-to-day customer support.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the transport network to enhance service, reduce cost, and improve reporting.
- Work closely with the wider logistics, supply chain and commercial functions to align transport activity with customer expectations and business growth.
Commutable to the Romsey, Hampshire area for c. 3 days per week.
The CandidateThe successful candidate will have the following skills and experiences:
- A Logistics Distribution and Supply Chain Background - Essential.
- 5+ Years proven experience in a senior carrier / sub-contract management role within a 3PL or logistics-led environment - Essential.
- Past experience managing a small logistics focused team - Essential.
- Strong understanding of UK & European haulage, subcontractor networks and carrier performance management - Essential.
- Commercially astute with excellent negotiation, influencing and contract management skills - Essential.
- A background within operational transport - Advantageous.
- Comfortable operating at both a strategic and operational level - Essential.
- Confident leader with a passion for developing teams and improving performance - Essential.
- Data-driven mindset with strong analytical and reporting capability - Essential.
Salary - £50,000 to £55,000 (DOE). Company Car Allowance. Company Bonus. 25 + 8 Holidays. Company Pension Scheme. Plus, additional company benefits.
