This Fleet Manager opportunity is with a well-established distribution operation based in Darlington, responsible for maintaining a safe, compliant and cost‑effective fleet operation supporting a busy logistics network. The business is looking for a proactive Fleet Manager who can take ownership of fleet performance, compliance and supplier management while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs. This is a hands‑on role requiring strong attention to detail, excellent organisational skills and the ability to build effective relationships with both internal stakeholders and external service providers. Working closely with the wider Logistics distribution and supply chain function, you’ll play a key role in ensuring fleet availability, compliance and operational performance remain at the highest possible standard.

Key responsibilities:

  • Managing the day‑to‑day performance and compliance of the fleet operation
  • Ensuring all vehicles remain compliant with relevant transport legislation and company policies
  • Managing maintenance schedules, inspections, servicing and defect processes
  • Overseeing supplier and contractor relationships, including maintenance providers and vehicle partners
  • Monitoring fleet costs and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce expenditure
  • Managing vehicle replacement programmes and supporting future fleet planning
  • Investigating fleet‑related incidents and implementing corrective actions where required
  • Working closely with transport, warehousing and wider Logistics distribution and supply chain teams to support operational performance
  • Producing fleet performance reports and compliance documentation for senior stakeholders

Key experience:

  • Previous experience operating as a Fleet Manager or within a senior fleet compliance or transport management role
  • Strong knowledge of fleet compliance, vehicle maintenance and transport legislation
  • Experience managing supplier relationships and negotiating service agreements
  • Commercial awareness with a proven ability to control costs and improve fleet efficiency
  • Strong organisational and problem‑solving skills
  • Experience working within a Logistics distribution and supply chain environment
  • CPC qualification would be advantageous but is not essential
  • Comfortable operating in a fast‑paced operational environment with multiple priorities
