Overview
In this role you will drive automation across biopharma R&D and development, implementing and tuning automated workflows for key assays. You will work with cross-functional teams to integrate liquid handling systems, ELN, LIMS, and data platforms, enabling high-throughput experimentation and scale-up. Youβll program, validate, and troubleshoot automation platforms, while coordinating with vendors and ensuring compliance. This is a hands-on, collaborative position at Lonza that shapes how we translate science into scalable, reliable workflows. Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and validate automated workflows for assays and screening campaigns, focusing on liquid handlers in cell culture process development and analytics
- Program and maintain automation platforms; troubleshoot equipment and coordinate vendor maintenance
- Collaborate with scientists, bioinformaticians, IT, and stakeholders to propose and implement solutions
- Support scale-up and tech transfer of automated workflows to operational or QC environments
- Supervise installation, validation, and qualification of equipment to meet standards
- Participate in Lonza training programs
Key requirements
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Biology, Biochemistry, or related field with lab automation experience in biotech/pharma
- Proficiency with automation software/hardware and liquid handlers: Hamilton Star, Tecan Proficient/Evo, Biomek i series, Agilent Bravo
- Experience writing or editing automation scripts (VENUS, EVOware, Python- or Java-based APIs)
- Familiarity with assay development and optimization in R&D or HT environment
- Understanding of data flow, integration, and digital lab systems (LIMS, ELN)
