Location: Slough, UK (with regular travel to Cambridge). Hybrid working available for eligible activities. Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates and their families, if required.

This role plays a key part in leading the engineering function responsible for maintaining our facilities, utilities and equipment, ensuring operational reliability and continuous improvement.

What you will do:
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership to the Asset Engineering teams across Slough and Cambridge, including both internal engineering teams and external FM Hard Services partners.
  • Oversee maintenance planning, scheduling, spare parts management, training, and maintenance execution to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant site operations.
  • Manage an operational budget in excess of Β£10M, ensuring financial transparency, accurate forecasting, and delivery of cost improvement initiatives.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement to enhance safety, quality, and operational performance while minimizing business interruption.
  • Develop and mentor team members to create expertise at all levels, promote open communication and empower decision-making.
  • Collaborate with service providers, contractors, procurement, and internal customers to ensure service excellence and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead with integrity, accountability, and a commitment to fostering a high-performing engineering culture.
What we are looking for:
  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in Engineering, Maintenance, Reliability or a related technical discipline.
  • Proven experience leading large, skill-diverse engineering or maintenance teams within a GMP-regulated environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, influence, and inspire teams to achieve service excellence and breakthrough performance.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance operational priorities with long-term strategic needs.
  • Experience managing significant operational budgets and driving cost and efficiency improvements.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across all levels of the organization and external partners.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, with a focus on building capability and delivering sustainable operational improvements.
