Payroll Apprentice
Location – Manchester, United Kingdom
Hybrid Working Policy.

The Payroll Apprentice role is designed to create an entry-level pathway into the EMEA Payroll Services team at Lonza. The role will support the delivery of accurate, timely and compliant payroll services across EMEA, while gaining practical experience in payroll administration, employee query management, payroll controls, vendor coordination and HR Services processes.

Working under close supervision, the Payroll Apprentice will build payroll knowledge through structured training, shadowing and hands-on support across monthly payroll activities. Full apprenticeship training will be provided, with the post holder working towards a recognised payroll qualification.

What you will do:

  • Build knowledge of payroll processes through shadowing, training and practical involvement in monthly payroll activities across EMEA payrolls.
  • Support payroll administration activities, including preparing, checking and maintaining payroll-related data in accordance with internal processes and country requirements.
  • Assist with collecting payroll input from various sources and support the preparation of monthly payroll instructions for the payroll provider.
  • Support payroll data checks and controls, including validation of employee data, overtime, allowances, deductions, absence-related payments and other payroll inputs.
  • Respond to employee queries through the appropriate HR/payroll ticketing channels, escalating complex or sensitive payroll matters to Payroll Specialists or the Payroll Manager.

  • Interest in Payroll, HR, finance and employee services.
