Role Purpose: The EHS Director is responsible for leading all Environment, Health & Safety activities for the establishment and start up of our new site at Reading, UK (Project Falcon). Reporting to the End to End Leader, the EHS Director is a member of the Falcon Project Leadership Team; working in close collaboration with the core project team (manufacturing, capital, quality and business readiness leads), the Slough Site EHS team and the EHS Business Partner for Integrated Biologics, as well as Operations functions they ensure that:

  • The new facility meets all regulatory and applicable Lonza EHS standards, including obtaining all required licenses and permissions to allow start up to the agreed schedule.
  • EHS inputs and requirements from an operational perspective are provided to the project team, including providing a single point of contact to the Pioneering Simplicity programme.

Key responsibilities:

  • Promotes a culture of EHS excellence at facility and provides high-quality EHS technical leadership.
  • As a key member of the site leadership team, provides advice and council, and communicates critical EHS issues to site and corporate management.
  • Ensure timely end-user input throughout all phases of the project, securing that EHS point of view/expertise is shared with and fully considered by the design team throughout.
  • Review and approve the relevant project specific EHS documentation including construction health and safety plans.
  • Ensure the project leadership team stays informed about current operations, aligning with Lonza standards and regulatory requirements relevant to the operation of the facility.
  • Ensures Slough EHS team is aligned with business readiness and organizational efficiency plans for the Falcon project (Pioneering Simplicity).
  • Adheres to LBMS standards and application of OE tools to drive efficiency and continuous improvement.

Key requirements:

  • NEBOSH Diploma is critical.
  • Appropriate environmental qualification (ie IEMA) or similar would be advantageous.
  • High level of EHS specific technical skills.
  • Ability to effectively deal with ambiguity, translate long term objectives into short term tactical plans and balance risk for overall plant and business success.
  • Exceptional leadership, interpersonal communication, negotiations, collaboration and management skills.
  • Demonstrates uncompromising standards for product.
  • Demonstrates sound decision making, considering broad scope of factors.
